How to remove Lewmar H2 windlass

I need to remove my H2 windlass. I started by removing the cables from inside the housing. However, when I tried to pull the windlass the cables seem to bind up as they try to work their way past the motor and out the hole in the bottom of the windlass. Now I am wondering if I should disconnect the cables in the boat and pull the cables all the way up through the deck along with the windlass.

For safety better to have disconnected the cables from the other end, ie from the controller solenoid before starting to disconnect the windlass.
Safer still to disconnect at the battery first or pull the fuse.

Draw the cables through whichever way you find easier.

There's a manual on Lewmar's website might help.

Yes. That occurred to me after I started to remove the cables. I turned off the battery switches, tripped the windlass breaker, then checked the leads with a volt meter.

Unfortunately the manual doesn't give any details on practical things like this.

Re: How to remove Lewmar H2 windlass

I decided to work the cables out through the windlass. Someone had put a lot of caulk or 4200 in the hole so that was making it difficult too. Also I removed the relay and that gave me enough room to get the cables out. I'm not sure how hard it will be to get the cables back up through the housing but I am keeping my fingers crossed.
