Large cleats - Where to find?

HI, Does anyone who builds quality stainless cleats in the 15"-18" range, preferably not Chinese?
Non Herreshoff style would also be preferrable

Thanks for any relevant info...

Sea Dog Link: Sea-Dog : Quality Marine, Industrial and Rigging Hardware
Herreshoff style and probably Chinese but they look pretty good.

Suncor Stainless Link: Blue Water Cleat
Herreshoff Style, don't know where it's made.

How about something like this? It will handle pretty big lines.
Sea Dog Link: Sea-Dog : Quality Marine, Industrial and Rigging Hardware

If you want any of these, I'd love to quote you on them.

Re: Large cleats - Where to find?

Curious. With a P40, what are you going to use it for?

Re: Large cleats - Where to find?

A second on Seadog. We got Defender to special order them for us. Great quality, very fair price.

Re: Large cleats - Where to find?

Thanks much for the links!

Herreshoff style is not really feasible and not to be picky but closed style is more desirable. This is for a neighbor with a 53' cutter.

Vetus has a good looking style but only goes up to about 12". This needs to accommodate to lines of about 7/16" or so.

So about 16" would do, but I think this goes to the megayacht territory....

Re: Large cleats - Where to find?

Well, I stand corrected... Not sure WHERE we got our 12" stainless cleats. Well, they did come from Defender, but not sure where they special ordered them. I thought they came from Seadog, but now that I look, I don't see them. Do thanks to Defender, I can look up my history. I see that they came from Dive N Dog! However, their website www.divendog.com seems to be out of business. But you can try seeing if anyone has them still. GREAT product. I paid $100 each for them.

Re: Large cleats - Where to find?

For something that size, it may be smarter to get them engineered at a local stainless/metal workshop. You appear to have real specifics in mind.

Do you mean 7/8"?
There are big galvanized cleats available but I don't know of anybody that casts a solid body SS cleat that big. I think most super yachts use welded bollard style cleats similar to the Sea Dog ones. I've seen some really pretty Italian made ones as well.

Goiot makes some big aluminum deck cleats.

Re: Large cleats - Where to find?

Meant 7/8", thanks...Galvanized would not do well, his boat is actually a pretty yacht and he's looking for something to match

Thanks for the Goiot lead, their products are great and they have been a family business for many years!

Having a machine shop make them is another way and I will get a price (probably not cheap though...)

Thanks for the input all!

Re: Large cleats - Where to find?

I have a pair of SeaDog 15" Herreshoff with 4 x 1/2" St Steel bolts. In hurricane Fabian, at constant 140 mph, it stretched and broke 7/16" chain. Not a mark on the cleats.

Re: Large cleats - Where to find?

Thanks for the input. I suppose Herreshoff is really the only one in the larger than 13" or so...

In hurricane Fabian, were you moored or anchored? I think cleat strength is also a factor of backing material and overall installation which you did properly!

Evans, were did you get your large cleats?

Re: Large cleats - Where to find?

^^

You can get large cleats relatively easily in Europe.

Ours came from a mfg in Norway that specialized in anodized aluminum parts for big yachts, we got cleats and deck fills and some other odds and ends from them. All very high quality, but aluminum. There are certaintly other suppliers that do large SS cleats, they are all over the European boat shows, but I don't know any names off the top of my head.
