People that rebuild starters, etc., usually have parts sources unknown to the rest of us. Most oem motors are made by someone else.

yeah Lepke , you're probably right , but then I think about the time I'll have to spend trying to find a company that can help me out.
And at what expense ?
So I guess it's time to throw in the towel.
Leave the misery behind , the memory of last season where - 50% of the time - had to pull the anchor up manually because the windlass didn't budge . 30kg anchor and about 30 meters of chain , that whacked me down every time.

I can still try and sell the LS parts , some are repaired to last a lifetime :-)

bobs... if it were me, I'd be going this route too... Get something shiny, new and reliable... sell your parts...

Sorry to bring this very old thread back to life but guess what ? My Leroy Somer windlass motor needs new brushes

After looking and comparing motors it seems like the lofrans cayman 88 motor is the same ? At least the same dimensions although i believe they use 3 wires instead of 2 so a new relay would need to be fitted as well

Has anyone tried a replacement motor instead of finding new brushes ?

We also are having Motor problems on our Somer windlass MBT 1141 s. We have taken the motor off and I'm going to try to find someone to read build it / service it. It still works but intermittently. Has anyone been successful in getting a replacement motor? Or replacement parts at this stage in the game?
