Lewmar Ocean 2 Windlass

I have a used Lewmar Ocean 2 Windlass. On the floor works great in both directions. Now that it is installed it seems to pull fine (UP direction Clockwise) with no weight. But I hear a clicking noise from the gear box going down (counter clock wise). Pulled it out and on the deck runs in both directions. If I load it down (grabbing the drum) it runs clockwise fine but begins to click counter clockwise. Is this normal?

This is normal.There is a spring loaded ratchet mechanism buried inside the main gear in the gear box.

Maybe something like a dog-ear to prevent a runaway?
