Lofran Tigres Windlass Motor

Troubleshooting our non functioning windlass, we have determine that the motor itself is the source. With motor removed from the windlass and removing the chrome end cap, two larger and long machine screws appear to be removed before I can disassemble to investigate the motor further. There are also 4 machine screws around the diameter of the housing.

So far I have been unable to remove any of these screws.
I'm assuming there is a "trick" to removing these without drilling them out or some such dramatic effort?

All suggestions, hints, recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks, Craig and Mary.

Re: Lofran Tigres Windlass Motor

It has been a while since I pulled one of these appart, but they usually separate without ant any problems.
If you can post a photo of the recalcitrant screw it would help refresh my memory. Soaking the screws in penetrating fluid always helps.
Make sure it's necessary. The solenoids fail more often than anything else. Apply 12v bypassing the solenoid and see if it spins is always the first test.

Re: Lofran Tigres Windlass Motor

My boat originally came with a Lofrans Tigres (I have since replaced it with the Lofrans Progress II) so I know it pretty well.

The four Phillips-heads machine screws around the outside of the housing hold the permanent magnets in place and not only are they not removable, there's no advantage to removing them. To disassemble the motor, you need to remove the hex-head bolts from the end.

Good luck, fair winds and calm seas.
