Re: Manson Supreme or Rocna

Rocna will be here tomorrow I think? Anyway I'm thinking leave the Danforth and ditch the CQR, Danforth is a pretty good lunch hook, and would there ever be a reason the use the CQR over the Rocna?

Save the CQR. Cut the lugs off , drill it out to 1" and put a bolt in it. You now have a nice 2 piece anchor.

Sell the CQR. It's heavy junk. The Danforth will be a great back-up/second/stern/kedge anchor. Only way to improve would be to replace it with a Fortress (very well made and lighter for taking out in the dinghy as a kedge), but the Danforth will do the job.

Re: Manson Supreme or Rocna

I just installed an 80# Manson Supreme on a 44' Gozzard replacing a 60# CQR. It may be a little overkill but I'll sleep better. I had a problem with the self-launching bow roller as the Manson's shank wouldn't lie flat on the bowsprit. Solved that using a chain-stopper with the flapper removed. The 1/2" pin goes thru the shank's bottom hole thus holding the shank down flat.

By the way, Manson's label says use the long rock slot for foul bottom and the bottom hole (sandslot) for overnight.
