MANTUS

In selecting one of the new generation of post-CQR/Danforth, what say you about Mantus. I have heard good reports.

Re: MANTUS

Absolutely an awesome anchor. Never slept better. Sets the first time, every time (so far ;-)). And a lot less expensive than some of their competitors. But I bought it because I believe it is the best, not because it was less expensive.

Re: MANTUS

I really like ours. I disassembled and stowed it during our Atlantic crossing to get the weight off the bow. Otherwise it is our primary anchor.

Never had a problem setting, never an issue with dragging.

Re: MANTUS

I was using a 30-40? lb. claw and it was holding pretty well, but a few hairy instances of drifting in the middle of the night were enough to switch to a 65 lb. Mantus. I have only had it for a few months but it's been rock solid every time I've used it and I'm extremely satisfied. The thing is a monster!

Re: MANTUS

Mantus sent me a free replacement anchor when I lost mine and subsequently lost my boat. Had I still had the Mantus I believe I would still have my boat.

I am a dedicated fan of concave roll bar anchors, and think highly of the Mantus amongst the group. However, I gotta say that if you had replaced the "30-40 ?" lb claw with a 65 lb claw, it would have also been a big improvement. We made just such a substitution back before we went to our Supreme: 44 lb genuine Bruce to a 66 lb claw and it worked heaps better. Bruce style anchors seem to gain in effectiveness disproportionately with increasing size. Dunno why, but many reports support the idea (including Evans Starzinger's opinion).

Re: MANTUS

On the Mantus. Is it just me reading the spec's wrong, or are the much larger, dimensionally, when compared pound for pound against the other roll bar anchors?
I ask, as if such is the case, it makes me wonder how one shoe horns a Mantus into their bow roller. For they've definitely caught my eye too.

Re: MANTUS

Just finished 6 months cruising in the Bahamas on our new to us Hylas. Friend Pam Wall came to see our boat before we left and suggested we would sleep better if we got a bigger anchor (had a Bruce and a Delta). So we got a 105lb Mantus, stainless steel. It dug in deep every time and never moved an inch despite some 35-40 knot blows and some 180 degree wind shifts. Incidentally also love the Mantus LED cockpit light which is a bright all round white light that lights up the whole cockpit, excellent for anchored visibility in busy anchorages.
