Re: Mantus Chain Hook Review

The Mantus hook seems to work as advertised. Because the anchor roller on my boat is not easily accessed, I drilled 2 holes in the chain hook so I could add a safety wire to guarantee it would not to come off as it passes over the roller. See photo.

Re: Mantus Chain Hook Review

I like using the Mantus chain hook; however, I have had it come undone when raising the anchor. I think what's happening is when I raise the anchor, the snubber line goes slack. With the vibration on the chain, the hook comes undone. I'm really not sure how this happens - something I'm going watch in the future. Never a problem while at anchor, under load.

I do like the soft shackle idea. Check out L-36, for great instructions on making them.

Your photo didn't post. Could you please re-try posting I would love to see what you are referring to. Thank you

In the instructions on the link (http://l-36.com/soft_shackle_howto.php) from Capt.Don I get lost in the pics from #18 to #21. I look at the diamond knot and from the beginning I don't see the two lines coming from the same angle like I see in the shackle pics. So I get lost.

So I guess I may just be too dense to make one. I don't get the knot set in my mind right.

And would hate to trust my shackle if it isn't correct. If someone showed me (held my hand, with a pointer, and a kleenex) maybe I could figure it out.

I think I can follow that knot making procedure better.
