Maxwell RC8 Installation Question

Hello there,

I'm looking at the Maxwell RC series for my new windlass. My only question is, am I able to use the windlass without the hause pipe/thru deck installation?

I have a Catalina 36 and the anchor locker is right in front of the windlass. I need the rope/chain to pass around the windlass and back into the anchor locker in front of it, not thru the deck. I am unsure if I can leave the sleek deckplate cover off the hause pipe area, don't drill the hole for the chain, and simply route the chain around the unit and into an open anchor locker.

Does anyone know who has a Maxwell RC series if this is feasible? Should I go for another style of windlass (Looking at the VW10) instead? (I like the new age gypsy that handles different grades of chain/rode).

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Maxwell RC8 Installation Question

On my Catalina 42 the chain comes off the stripper and drops into the locker.

Our RC-10 drops the rode directly into the locker below; don't know if there's a way to over-ride that.

Maxwell customer service has been very responsive to questions.
