Moorings in Spain

Bit of a newby question!
If you rent a private mooring in a Marina in Spain ? do you still pay separate marina fees ?

Re: Moorings in Spain

Talk to the specific marina.

In govt owned ones (of which there are two separate types) there are no private berths. You pay to the marina / govt as anybody else.

But there are also private marinas, owned by companies that built / manage them. In this case it is not possible to say what kind of arrangement / rent / purchase they offered to berth keepers / owners.

Talk to the specific marina where the berth or mooring is.

Re: Moorings in Spain

This one, e.g., clearly does not include the marina fees (marina fee, electricity and water)

https://uk.topboats.com/venta-alquil...ina-rubicon-10

You can't have a 10x4.25 berth in el Rubicon for EUR200. Pigs do not fly.

It is possible then that this website has both arrangements listed without telling you which one is which. Most likely the website does not make this data only collects it from various sources.

Spot the berth you like, copy the marina name and email them with a specific yes / no type of question.

Re: Moorings in Spain

I had a quick look at this website and it seems to be a very poor source. Just look at the date given here:

Well. Outdated.

BTW Where they say SELL - you buy this and then you pay a fixed monthly to the management. I checked quickly cross Puerto Rubicon Marina (privately owned marina).

Re: Moorings in Spain

Thanks Barnakiel, I think the site has some translation problems, but I take your point to double check dates and locations with each marina, still trying to figure out the cheapest way to comfortably keep a boat in Spain !cheers

Re: Moorings in Spain

In places like San Antonio (you probably wouldn't want to keep a boat there) many have laid their own private moorings. The marina then lay moorings close to these.

I saw private moorings people had laid outside Rubicon in Lanzarote too.

Re: Moorings in Spain

Re private moorings in Spain - these need prior consent from local authorities - a harbour master where exists, a region mayor (el presidente de gobierno de la autonomia (central govt) or else el alcalde (local govt).

So it is probably doable, although so much easier whn you are a local person and speak Spanish.

Normally, the cheapest long term option is to find the least expensive marina in the region where you have the boat and then apply for a long term berth there. For most marinas and some ports offer discounts for long term rent. At times as much as 50% more often aboyt 25% in one year pre-payments.

Hi Mike, yes, I have seen the ones at Rubicon, I spent a night there when I done my RYA QC. I assumed they belong to some well connected locals, I definitely would even pay a reasonable price for one if they were for sale.
