Pete
It's available, but it costs £450.

And I can't find 10mm G70 at a non-ridiculous price. I did find some 10mm duplex stainless for only €120 per meter. That's right - €12 000 in total. Plus shipping. Plus VAT

Re: New Anchor Chain

I couldn't find a dealer in Germany either, but found the somewhat disguised webshop (no English, only Italian) of the manufacturer Catene Maggi in Italy.

Ricerca prodotti

shipping varies by country, but generally around € 200

... that's the price without VAT - which will add another ~€400

This is the English version. Looks like 75m of G70 x 10mm (there are different sizes to 10mm, so car needed) is E1276 plus delivery.

Re: New Anchor Chain

excellent, the English version does work now.

+ yes, 10mm comes in 2 flavours, link length either 28 or 30mm.

And you'll need an extra large endlink to be able to fit an equally strong shackle - see pic.

btw. just found out that "toplicht" in Germany offers the chain at roughly the same price.

The 10mm chain is €2237 for 100 meters. Yowza! Almost double the price of 12mm G40.

Normal... 100m of 3/8” is $3,300 here and that is only 9.5mm. (but I could find a cheaper source if I need).

Yikes. I guess I'd better jump on the genuine Titan 12mm for £1200 including vat and shipping.

There’s always cheaper options but there’s always strings attached to that as well... in this case weight at the bow and/or chain locker too small to take the length you want. I could never store 400’ of 1/2” chain in my locker and the weight would be a killer too

In the Netherlands:
https://sailspecials.nl/watersportar...erketting-g40/

100 meters of 12mm G40 would be Euro 1.595,- (inclusive of 21% VAT, which in most cases you can deduct if you are not registered in NL)

In Patagonia, I think, some of the time is spent with four lines to the shore. I have seen this on images. People will deploy directly from drums set on special made supports - so they unroll as you row ashore to that rock (or tree).

So there it is not just which anchor to have but also much more rope ready onboard.

I hope you will go there. Would be interesting to read your reports. It is such an awesome cruising ground there. But too rough for us.

Cheers,
b.

Re: New Anchor Chain

Door number three except even less chain. Put the weight in the anchor. 20 meter chain and 3-strand.
