Lots, but you need to better define what you want to do.

frankly and thanks, first, bring my boat to live there for free. Not far from the city of Boston, by the way, to be able to go with a dinghy and sorry if did not provide more details.

Well I boated out of Salem MA for 7 years. I can not think of anywhere in the area you could anchor out as a live aboard full time for free. While there are lots of places to anchor they don't have access to facilities etc you will need. But you can anchor out around the Boston Islands pretty much as long as you want. Probably the closest place you long term stay is the Federal anchorage in Gloucester as there is dinghy access and town etc.

But note, in NE towns have harbormasters that actually control things. It isn't like FL were any boat can just drop anchor and stay.

Re: Overnight Anchoring for free in Boston Area

Savin has 50 moorings, but they are member owned so one would need to arrange for a private transaction to rent theirs.

RE: Savin Yacht Club

Location: The club occupies Fox Point on Dorchester Bay, which opens to the entrance to Boston's inner harbor. It shares a cove with Univ. of Mass. at Boston, and its mooring area extends from there toward the "Sister Corita" Boston Gas gas tank. This is close to public transportation, the Savin Hill and JFK Red Line T stops. JFK Library, supermarkets, a motel and other stores are nearby. Lat/Long: approximately 42' 18.5" North, 71' 2.4" West.

Launch: Daily, in season. Hail the launch, "Retriever" on VHF channel 68.

Fuel: Gasoline at the dock.

Ice: Available at the dock.

Moorings: Moorings are each members own responsibility and as such, the club has no authority to offer a guest mooring. Make arrangements directly with the member for use of their mooring.

Clubhouse: Waterfront lounge and grille. Current hours posted in FAQs . Always a cooling breeze on our beautiful canvas covered, wrap around deck.

Showers: Available 24 hours, in the clubhouse.

Parking: Off-street parking.

Perhaps pursuing a private mooring of your own, will require permitting by the Boston Harbor Master.

Re: Overnight Anchoring for free in Boston Area

To OP it not a question really of anchorage. You can anchor right in Boston (at least could 7 years ago). It is question of being to get ashore.

Btw unless you like jet wash from the airport anchoring in Boston Harbor isn't great

We anchored a few days near Jeffries Yacht club but then decided to grab a mooring ball at Boston Waterfront Marina. Stayed at the marina for a few months. Well worth it.

Re: Overnight Anchoring for free in Boston Area

Can you be more specific? Are you planning to visit or take up residence? There are very few marinas which allow you to live aboard over the winter, although it can be done. Anchoring out over winter is not going to work at all.

The Northeast US is just not like other, warmer coasts. We don't have anchorages for permanent live-aboards. All the good spots near any shoreside services were long ago taken over by marinas and (paid) mooring fields. And most of those have long waiting lists. Plenty of remote locations are still available, although many of those are filling up with private "destination" moorings which are not (legally) available for anyone else to use.

Re: Overnight Anchoring for free in Boston Area

The inner harbor in Gloucester still has a mooring field and transient facilities. It is a heavy commercial fishing port so if you want peace and quiet, that's not the place. Spent the night there 2 days ago.
