Great photos again. But I have to say they would have been much better if taken by you of your Mermaid exploring the pots - She's hot

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

A private aluminium cruising boat dropped this Spade. They did not put any setting force on it, so it is just sitting on the bottom. There is no drag mark. The boat stayed overnight.

I may have, I am not sure here, never agreed with you before, but in this I certainly do. Not only hot, but smouldering as well.

Good heavens, Coops,

Surely not mouldering! Not "our mermaid?!"

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

You took the "S" out of it Ann. John Brown's body may be mouldering. But hers is not.

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

The wind has strengthened slightly to about 17 knots. This is much better for anchor observation, as it at least guarantees a modest setting force. 25 knots is better, but the weather never responds to wishful thinking .

Unfortunately, the boat with the Spade left early, it would have been nice to see how it responded to a bit of setting force.

My mermaid did manage to capture the Ultra in her early morning swim.

It was doing a good job. This is still only a light setting force, but it has responded well by digging in with little heaping up. It has almost rotated level. The underside of the fluke is still a bit exposed, but some more setting force would fix this. It has moved back almost a metre from its rotational position. This is not too bad, but as you have seen, the quickest setting anchors can go from unset to very well set in this sort of distance, or less.

The short scope of 3:1 doesn't help, although at no stage was the chain lifting all the way to the anchor. Therefore the scope makes little difference as the pull on the anchor shank was always parallel to the seabed. Of course a stronger wind, or full reverse on the engine would be enough to lift the chain and then the scope becomes critical.

All in all not a bad recovery. It would have been nice to see the Ultra rotate around the one spot with little list, like some of the better performances I have managed to photograph, but the initial set was not very deep and this was perhaps asking too much.

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

That is her to a T. Not a model T, although she could be a model. Not T for two, because she has affection for only one. T shirt, wouldn't she look great in a wet one?

Yes, smouldering. It may have been the incorrect usage and description and I accept the finger in the eye, but hopefully she took it as a compliment.

No finger in the eye intended.
I didn't know the meaning of the word, so googled it.
English - Polish on - line dictionary gave me the meaning You used (I think and hope...), but explanations from other links were rather funny in the context

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

Well, it would not be an anchoring thread without some disagreement.
I am afraid you are all wrong. My Mermaid is hot

Now if any member can answer my quiz I promise to post another mermaid photo:

Which anchor manufacturer claims the following?
Only requires 2:1
No chain is needed
It requires no setting
Sets within a foot
Less than a 40lb anchor is suitable for a 70 foot boat.

The above are genuine claims made by an anchor manufacturer, but which one? My hope with this thread is that you can judge anchors for yourself , rather than relying on information like the above.

My only clue is that it is not an anchor featured so far in the photos.

The gauntlet has been thrown down .

I remember XYZ claiming their 33 lb being good for 63 footer...
But even they demanded some chain...

Thinking, thinking...

XYZ is a unique anchor that defies normal classification, but

Only other thing I can think about is this crazy strange thing called probably Box anchor...
But I doubt if anybody can use it at all... No chance for photos...
