Plug-In for displaying current rode on an anchor?

I am posting this on behalf of my hubby - David Fansler who is sailing the Atlantic from Greece to home in US (North Carolina). Current location: 31d41.244'N 15d523719'W making 6.4 knots.

"Has anyone written a plug-in for displaying the current rode on an anchor? If not is anyone willing to do so? From my stand point all I need is a plug-in to read an rs-232 input which would consist of a string of ASCII characters that would be the depth. A device outside of opencpn would do the work of actually determining the actual ride. Under the plug-in preferences you should need to be able to select meters or feet. The ride would be displayed in a Dashboard."

"I will not be able to see any replies or respond to my normal email. If you have an answer please respond here for the group, and to mary@dv-fansler.com, then she can relay the responses to me"

Kind Regards,
David

Re: Plug-In for displaying current rode on an anchor?

I am very confused by what is wanted... the complete misuse of the word "rode" has me flummoxed at deciphering the actual meaning.

Is this really a request to simply divide the chain counter output by the water depth? Is an app really needed for that?

Or is what is wanted an app to multiply the water depth times the desired scope? Really?

Or am I totally missing the boat here?

Might have better luck if posted on OpenCPN Forum
