150 meters of primary rode for a 32' boat in the Gulf of Mexico? The word "overkill" comes to mind, but on the other hand, there's not really any weight penalty for carrying the 75 meters of rope.

Re: Poll - Secondary Anchor Rodes

Primary: 45kg Spade with 100 meters of 12mm (1/2") G40 chain
Secondary/Kedge: Large Fortress with 10 meters of 10mm chain and 100 meters of 7/8" polyester octoplait.

I used to have another secondary -- 25kg Delta with 40 meters of 12mm chain, but I gave that all away this winter. It was a lot of weight and bulk to carry for what purpose? If I, God forbid, lose the primary ground tackle, the Fortress will hold a lot better than the old Delta, and anyway I will be replacing it immediately. If I were going to remote places and really wanted a backup primary set of ground tackle, I would buy another Spade -- which can be stored in the bilges knocked-down (the shank unbolts from the fluke) -- and a long rope rode.

For rope rode, I like polyester octo because it stretches more than three-strand or double braid, while being more chafe resistant than nylon. Octo handles and flakes much better than three-strand. I still use a nylon snubber even with rope rode.

Tertiary.

I don't keep an anchor or chain on the third long line as it should be available for towing or warping and removing those would take valuable time.
