Pressure Arm on Maxwell Windlass

After about no more then a dozen anchorages the pressure arm (white and yellow plastic things) went off
Replacement is not a big deal neither is the cost.
But I'm wondering is this should happen so often and why such a cheap plastic things is used instead of something more permanent and stronger?

Also I've been told that on an all chain you can do without it.

Any experiences to share?

Re: Pressure Arm on Maxwell Windlass

mine got chewed up on my SL windlass this year and I took it off while waiting to replace, it did jam up more on both the rope and chain without the pressure arm, but it did still work as long as I was "helping" the rode off the windlass

Re: Pressure Arm on Maxwell Windlass

(will this post still be seen??)

I have similar issue. Pressure arm breaks (the yellow fiberglass piece gets shredded).

anchor works fine on chain without the pressure arm but fails on rope portion (can't grab. I am assuming the pressure arm is mainly for the rope).

I am getting jams that I think are the cause of the pressure arm breaks.

so far I am trying:
- clean the rope to soften it so it flows better. (water and softener soak)
- add some lithium grease to area for better lube (maybe temporary but if it helps then I can troubleshoot that)

any other ideas to prevent pressure arm breakage?

thanks
