Puget Sound Anchorages

I'm getting ready to spend some time anchoring out in the sound. I've done some research with Waggoner and online, and I'm finding conflicting information. For instance, Port Madison is suppose to be a very nice anchorage - but I've seen comments online that today there are so many mooring bouys there that you can't actually anchor.

Where can I go for up to date information on anchorages in Puget Sound?

I moved here from SF in 2016 and was looking for the same kind of info and I did the same kind of research. What I found are the kinds of things that reality teaches you, kinda like sailing. As much as I depend on Waggoners, anything that is published could be out of date. I say could, because I've compared a year 2000 Waggoners to a newer 2016 edition and didn't find too many changes. Gee, maybe things I was looking at hadn't changed. OTOH, I've learned that internet sources, unless trusted and vetted could well be misleading.

So, I make my choices and just go where I want to with a fallback built in.

Not much different than the thread about sailing before GPS.

"Satellite View" on Google Maps (or similar) can be helpful.

Looks like the rumors are correct about Port Madison.

How can you tell?
I can't discern whether the boats are moored, or anchored [or even moving].

Sorry, my screen shot image is low resolution.

Zooming in directly from the Google Maps App clearly shows a mooring ball (or dock) at the bow of almost every boat in the harbor. Many mooring balls are shown vacated, so potentially there could be even more boats at any given time.
