Many of the folks who would be affected by these proposed restrictions aren't contributing significantly to the boating industry. If anything, the restrictions would help the boating industry by steering boaters to paid moorings and marina slips.

But yes, if you don't feel welcome in Florida, go somewhere else. That's just common sense.

Re: restricked anchoring, mooring in florida

Recieved a very fast reply from Boat US:

Mr. Gomez-

Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, BoatU.S. is actively engaged with the sponsors of this bill. We are working to ensure that active, responsible boaters will have a range of options when it comes to anchoring or mooring their boats. While this is only proposed legislation, it does seem likely the Florida legislature will act on this issue this spring. Keep a watch for our email alerts.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Regards,

David Kennedy

Re: restricked anchoring, mooring in florida

I too have had a long, fruitful discussion with BoatUS and they are indeed involved. One comment was that it appears this time around that the Florida legislature is pretty committed to passing some kind of new regulations including a setback. It just isn't clear what the final bill will look like. There is one proposed in the Florida Senate, but none in the House yet. Here is another option we have been floating in the boating community with a lot of positive feedback. The State of Florida receives substantial funds from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that oversees the Boating Infrastructure Grant program. The state is currently receiving nearly one million dollars. In addition, BoatUS offers grants to states for boating improvement projects. As a group we as boaters might consider starting a petition to ask both of those organizations to withhold any further grants to the state of Florida until it's anti-boater policies are reviewed. This may get someones attention, since politician will take note when money is denied. Just wanted to throw that out there for comment.
