Re: Rocna made in PRC

China is a disaster waiting to happen for any company doing business there. Its generally not the fault of the Chinese manufacturer they hire to make the product. The supply chain between your manufacturer and raw materials suppliers is so corrupted you have know idea what you're going to get. Rocna will pay the price eventually.

Anyone interested in buying a Rocna or Vulcan, my employees will be in the CMP booth at the Ft. Lauderdale boat show starting Thursday. I'm going to work up some really good prices.
Where at the show are you located? Comparison shopping with Defender so sharpen that pencil.

YES, they are made in China and yes, China is known as the PRC. Has been for decades. How can they be any more honest than clearly displaying where they are made on the anchors and on their web site?

Your 'they should price accordingly' I think is what your really getting at. You expect something to be made in China to be a lot cheaper, regardless of the quality, is that what your really after?

I think your post reeks of ethnocentrism
......and he is still allowed to his opinion, is he not? Mislabelling people is not particularly helpful. Of course you might have supporting evidence that the establishes/validates the quality of this product and is the basis of your statement? That being so, I look forward to reading it.
Otherwise, I would also suggest that based on the sheer amount of dubious quality items that still emanate from China that his concerns are certainly worth addressing. That is not to say that reasonable quality cannot be achieved - it can - but is the consistency assured? I also would not be too comfortable placing my faith in such a product sourced from there; at least until independent validation is given and that their quality procedures are assured.

The booth is over at Bahia Mar. I don't know the number yet. We'll meet them or beat them. If you're in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale well deliver it to you for free.

Re: Rocna made in PRC

With shipping a half barrel of 5/16 HT is gonna cost you right at a grand from Defender, to a commercial address, depending of course where you are.
I know as I have a half barrel sitting in the bed of my truck

Re: Rocna made in PRC

Several years ago my Chinese made Rocna was recalled by West Marine and I was offered and given a full refund for a product made with inferior Chinese steel.

With so many good anchors available, I don't understand the brand loyalty especially when the company continues to do business in China. I won't be surprised by a repeat recall.

Re: Rocna made in PRC

If I remember right,

The early Rocna had no name embossed in the rear of it and were made in Canada,

The early Chinese low Mpa grade steel rocna had their name embossed in the rear of it.

And now the higher grade Mpa steel ones have the name embossed still but also a number stamped in the lower area of the shank near the weld.
This number embossed enabled them to know between the Chinese made ones...

Please correct me as I could be very wrong........Oooops sorry

I thought this forum was supposed to be civil?
Didn't sound like a "rant" to me...just someone concerned about the origin of one of the most important pieces of gear on a boat...

As far as "ethnocentric"...ouch!

Concern over quality control in China is one reason why I chose to buy a Manson Supreme, rather than a Rocna. The Manson is manufactured in New Zealand. Prices are comparable to Rocna.

Bit dissapointed as the quality is not that of my friends...
Even the doc that it comes with refers to a galvanising vent that doesn't exist.

Is it possible you've bought a counterfeit copy of a Rocna? Or maybe an old one?

Re: Rocna made in PRC

We did the same - I had concerns over Rocna's transparency the first time around. I am not going to get caught twice, or even entertain the prospect.

Re: Rocna made in PRC

How can they be more honest?
1) By not stealing other countries technology
2) By preventing counterfeiting
3) By stopping their posturing regarding international waters/territories
4) The list should go on and on but that is thread drift and is political so I'll stop.

Re: Rocna made in PRC

I have to laugh.

Noelex77 has a whole thread devoted to testing various anchors and a few are mentioned as outstanding.

I cant remember a single one lolololol.
