Re: Sarca Excel in BC - Anyone else?

I just ordered a #7 from Rex
Looking forward to trying it out
Even for this fairly large anchor with Rex selling it at a discount for overseas clients my cost all in was about $1300. Aust.
Only modestly more than I would pay for a Mantus or a Rocna

Hi
My first post here, Rex informed me of this conversation so I thought I would show you an Excel #5 in BC. Love the quality of workmanship and dealing with Rex & Joy. The sad part is work and weather have not allowed me to get it wet yet...

Was extremely please with how it fit my bowsprit as you can see. It now resides on "Rochepoint" in Sidney BC a PT38 Sedan Trawler, please don't hold that against me. In another life we had a Nonsuch 30.

Cheers Mike

Nick
Ps I won't hold the trawler thing against you and I wish they had boathouses for sailboats.

We are North Saanich Marina within throwing distance of you....
Wasn't John Newton's "Panchena" in a boathouse at Van Isle Marina in the old days.......

Re: Sarca Excel in BC - Anyone else?

Mike, please give us your feedback after you have dropped it a few times, would be much appreciated.

I'd like to hear if it stays put in a soft bottom when you back down on it hard with those grunty trawler engines.

What HP you got?

Re: Sarca Excel in BC - Anyone else?

Hi there. I have a Cavalier36 ior 1tonner 6.5tons light ship here in Wellington New Zealand. I use to run a 45lbs cqr 60mtrs of 8mm chain and after 3 years of dragging around the malbrough sounds I tossed the cqr in the piss and got a sarca excel no4.

What a difference. The sarca bites in so hard that regularly I have to drive the anchor out. My maxwell vwc1500 won't budge it once it's set.
For those of you who don't know wellington and the malbrough sounds it's windy! So I set minimum scope of 1:5 and upto 1:7 if it's breezy.
I was looking into the rocna but the roll bar the build quality all put me off. I'm sarca all the way set and forget

Re: Sarca Excel in BC - Anyone else?

I wanted the best anchor on the market to upgrade from a 44lb Delta for my Tradewind 35. Looked at the various modern designs and decided that the Sarca Excel had it all. No UK dealers so I imported one direct OZ to Cornwall. Beautifully made and designed. Funny that whenever I turn in at night on the hook I never have had cause to regret the bit of freight
cost and customs duty - its a fantastic anchor.
