Sarca Experiences

The sarca thread with some good discussion has dissapeared.

Do any menbers have any experience with the new SARCA models??

Real world experience, not manufacturer manufactured numbers.

Yes - I am particularly interested in the excel and would value comment from people who have used them.

As for disappearing threads - what can I say, there are forums where that doesnt happen.

The "Sarca" thread was removed from public view while the team of moderators discuss a rash of problematic posts in it, including one impugning the integrity of a journalist who is highly regarded and who has lodged a complaint with us. Cruisers Forum takes issues like that seriously . . . there are forums where that doesn't happen.

If anyone here would prefer to spend their time on such forums, feel free to spend all of your time there with our blessing.

I was reading it as well. A good discussion for the most part. I'm new to the lifestyle and this forum. It is a very good resource for me as I am learning something everyday.

Maybe the thread can be placed back in view after some editing of the libelous content.

That will very likely happen, four winds, after we've concluded frank discussions with some of the members posting to the thread.

I hope so.

Until then I'll continue planning my first offshore coastal sail a day north of here to anchor overnight and return the following day. I'm fired up. The weather is looking good for several days in row and I have the requisite amount of rum already on board.

And tomorrow is my birthday to boot.

Bruce is on my boat. Lays around deck all day and doesn't do anything until we pull into harbour when he goes for a swim. He's a bit of a mudraker don't you know :P

None of it was defamatory (libellous/slanderous) - rude and insulting yes, actionable no.

Hi Downunder, i have used the sarca (not excel) and have had no problems the slot in the top allows me to drive over and pull from the reef also anchores in mud and sand, this anchor always resets itself in a tide turn without any problems (if it pulls out) only happened once and it reset in less than a couple of metres i use the #5 i think on my 10 m cat and have never used a reef anchor since i purchased it . i carry a rocna and another sarca as secondary anchors but would not deploy the rocna into the reef unless setting up a release line. i have set the sarca at least 100 times and to date it has always set in waters of 2 - 80m first every time. using a 5:1 scope only 3;1 in deeper water (only have 300m of anchor warp)

Tao,

I didn't see that thread but have seen some of the other anchor threads and can only imagine what was going on. I'm sure you have your hands full. Good luck.

Incorrect choice of words on my part.

I have one of those old fashion anchors. The mechanics of the procedure are what interest me. So I read the threads with interest though the dialog between a few is annoying.
