Securing spare anchor

Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to secure a spare anchor? The anchor would not be mounted on deck, it would be in a decent size anchor locker but at ca. 44lbs (20kgs) its weight is substantial and I don't want it moving about or bumping into things in the locker. There must be some way of mounting it in a bracket and locking it down - has anone done this? Pictures appreciated..

Thanks,
Mike

What type of anchor are you trying to secure?

Re: Securing spare anchor

I have a third anchor in a low center locker secured below, but I recently redesigned my anchor davit to "nest" two together at the bow.

Notice that the Bruce is fitted under the Mantus. I took advantage of much good advice on this forum to arrive at this design. Other choices depend on the design of your bow.

Re: Securing spare anchor

Whatever spare anchors are stored below decks should be fitted in their own chocks, as low as possible, and away from the ends of the boat. Particularly well suited are those which can be disassembled.

Re: Securing spare anchor

we carry 5 different anchors aboard and found that using the rode is a great way to support the lose anchors in the spare locker.
Both the fortress and danforth are on the rear rail, the fisherman, CQR, and bruce, are in the spare locker and the Mantus has a home on the roller..
If not the rode, throw some rope into the locker and drop the anchor in atop it. after a few miles it works itself into a home.

What Terra Nova said +1

Custom wooden chocks, hard points and lashings.

I like this idea of providing a cushioning nest with the rode, but I think a secure lock down with chocks or a tie strap is important too. I've used seat belt material for securing some big or heavy stored items. Maybe even a piece of this rode could be the security in addition to the cushioning if it were lashed to a strong point.
