Semi-truck Shock Absorber?

I'm getting ready to test out my storm mooring here on the gulf coast. I've seen and read lots of different methods for setting up the mooring. I've chosen to use a dual helix anchors with 10k pullout each and an all 1/2" chain system which should be more than adequate for my 36' boat. The system should be plenty strong but absolutely no give in rough weather.

I read online of a person who claimed to have solved that problem by using a truck tire as a ring shock absorber in an all chain mooring system to provide some give. I am thinking it sounds logical, but maybe with a backup chain in case the tire fails. Anyone have any real experience using a similar setup?

The best way I have seen to try and add some shock absorbing capacity is to insert it parallel to the chain. So you never interrupt the direct connection between the boat and the anchors. This way if the absorber fails... well no big issue, the chain itself isn't compromised.
