Re: Stainless anchor on galvanized chain

"(but perceived weaker anchor (not the case with Rocna based on their literature)"

When has any sales brochures or catalogues, or advertising material pointed out weaknesses or potential problems with a product.

Of course they are going to sing it's praises

Ahh, you've dealt with Rocna before.

Re: Stainless anchor on galvanized chain

Galvanized chain and Mantus anchor but a stainless swivel. Just a few months ago I cut off 2 to 3 feet of chain, yes I'm overly cautious, that I didn't like the looks of. No big deal and in a year or two I'll probably do it again unless I replace the entire chain. It is showing its age..

The anchor showed no ill effects from being in touch with the SS swivel.

Re: Stainless anchor on galvanized chain

We’ve been using a stainless Ultra anchor with galvanized chain for six years without a problem. Just need to cut off the last two links of chain each year, no big deal. Stainless anchors are engineered to be just as strong as steel anchors but without any of the corrosion issues.

Re: Stainless anchor on galvanized chain

I've had galv and SS anchors for the same reason as the OP (no difference in cost).

A little bit easier to clean and trim a link every few years. Though I would worry about cracking with poorly installed swivels (attached direct to the anchor by PO--it cracked), anchors have a HUGE safety factor around the eye. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

On the other hand, I actually like handling a galv anchor better; SS is too slippery.
