It is designed exactly for the purpose. But it looks kind of flimsy. I guess the forces are not too big there, but still. Anyone have any experience with this device? Does anyone know of any better alternatives?
I think your right, that isn't going to hold a Jordans series drogue. The Jordan website gives some ideas on the load that could be involved and they are high.

There was an interesting article, possibly in the Autumn edition of the Moodys Compass magazine of a 376 Moody, being prepared for blue water cruising. They had the Port Solent yard add some serious stainless plates with eyes bolted high up either side of the transom for a Jordan drogue. The inside of the transom was also heavily re-inforced with GRP and backing pads.

I have massive after cleats which I'm pretty sure will take the loads from the Jordan drogue. I have written to the designer, Bill Dixon, for confirmation of this. But the cleats look like they came off a tugboat and I don't expect any problem.

I just need decent roller fairleads to lead the lines over the transom without chafe.

Re: Stern Anchor Roller or Fairlead

A pair of nice custom made jobbies then. How about a pair of rollers from a boat trailer mounted in a nice stainless steel frame? certainly they supported the weights of various ribs on my trailers and seem to last fairly well even being dunked regularly. Or even polished stainless steel rollers.

Parts

These folk did a lot of the stainless steel work on Mirabella.

Polished stainless steel rollers on sealed ball bearings -- in a nice stainless steel frame. Mmmm, nice. And probably extremely expensive. Thanks for the leads.

And here's something from Cooney, an OEM to Moody and based right in my marina:

Now that's much more like it! I think Cooney made by cleats and davits. The only problem is no bottom roller. I think I'll go talk with them.
