That's One Slick Boathook

This thing is just too cool. Passes a line through a ring without letting go of it. Over a $100 on Defender, and not something I really need now, but would have been handy grabbing the state park mooring balls up in Washington (USA) where its just a ring atop a buoy.

As a mechanical engineer I am just a sucker for clever designs, and this one rocks. Lot's of other attempts at mooring ball type hooks, but they all seem poor designs. This one might muck up after awhile, don't know, but I had to watch the video several times - got a kick out of it.

Robship Hook & Moor Boat Hook

Go to the "Click here for a product demo video" link on above page. Have to see it work.

(I am not telling you to buy the thing. In fact, don't buy it, just watch the video)

Re: That's One Slick Boathook

Been using one of these for past couple of years, it is good, but occasionally it can get jammed onto a ring. Last time that happened to me it was in 25kts of wind trying to hook on to a buoy single handed, forced to let go of the hook, and found out (luckily) that it floats.

We used to have one of those. It's slick but we ended up using the regular boat hook more often.

Those rings on the WA state park (and DNR) bouys pull up and away from the bouy. No need to bend way over.

I pick them up on the stern, loop a line thru and walk it to the bow. I’m mostly single handed, but works better than yelling at the SO.

It's also very heavy and unwieldy with one hand.

Strange that nobody replied to the OP for five years. It is an interesting product.

Here is a similar product. I sold some of these to the Coast Guard many years ago. I think they were made by Davis back then.

Re: That's One Slick Boathook

We have one and use it all the time on Washington state park buoys. However, as someone else said, they are heavy and awkward so they do not replace your regular boat hook for docking.
