Thanks Steve. You know, looking at that, first I have never seen any value to the rock slot and I think the video bears that out. But also the failure of the Manson to reset, after being lifted back up to the surface seems to be as much a function that there is so little fluke area to that anchor AND so little of what fluke area it has is devoted to diving and driving the anchor down. Pretty much all of the Sarca's fluke area contributes to diving it down to bury it. Maybe if the tip of the Manson was bent down a bit to help initiate the dive it would help, but still to my eye it just has way too little fluke area.

Zaida would complain that she had trouble sleeping when it was blowing at anchor even though I kept a close watch

Her Xmas present arrived this week!

When I said that I had bought her Excel #13, she thought it was a perfume..

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Pelagic, We have access to numerous testimonials and test results for "smaller" anchors but few for the larger examples. Please share your experience with your beautiful new anchor when you start using it.

Refresh my memory. Is it a CQR that you are replacing?

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Hi Steve. ... Will do!
Yes I've had 2 CQR anchors on since 2004.
Sketchy performance with direction changes as you demonstrated.

I will shift the larger CQR to Starboard Side as a backup

Seasons Best!

Steve, that was very interesting ... What would happen if you set it up backwards? Having seen that, It seems to me as if you want the better anchor at the end of the chain, and the weaker anchor in the position you are calling "primary". That way the first anchor can at worst perform as a kellet on the chain for the better anchor, and if you're lucky aid in setting the anchor at the end of the chain in the same way that the viking improved the set of the bruce.

Kelkara, as you say, with the higher performing anchor in the "tandem" position, the primary will almost certainly become a kellet.

As far as the Bruce anchor (in my video) performing better in the "trench" of the primary, this may be unique to that anchor type in that particular seabed. It very well be that other anchors/seabeds would produce the opposite effect and cause the tandem anchor to have LESS holding when operating in the disturbed seabed of the primary.

I wondered about that too- and discount this as beneficial as kellets and chain catenary disappear at high loads anyway. So when you need more holding, the first anchor will pull out and be a kellet and not contribute. And in resetting, especially in 180 degree wind shifts, I shudder to think what could happen down there with both anchors tangled up.

I bet tandem anchors was never a good idea in practice though some thought so in theory. And, the old days of 2 anchors on the bow are hopefully gone. Put your money and weight into a great primary and let it do its job!
