Weeeel I'm 1.59 if I am throwing out my Luke. Means nothing if its much mud but in Rocky crap it might be good.
This is back to the one perfect anchor. Can I add up anchor weight and have a rating for an fx.
Different situation needs different stuff

Re: What is your Bigness Factor?

I currently have a 60 lbs Manson Supreme on my C47, but it was given to me and before I start cruising I will have something much bigger.

So:

60/47= 1.27

Re: What is your Bigness Factor?

Take a look here at the Manson Supreme anchor sizing chart from their website. For a 45 footer they recommend either a 45-pounder at the low end or a 60-pounder at the high end. The 45-pounder would be a 1.0, or Normal, the 60-pounder would be a 1.3, or conservative. I think that's about right.

Re: What is your Bigness Factor?

Whew ... just made it into the BIB club @ 1.497.

... but at 28,000# (and 36.75 ft), I sure don't feel my 55# Rocna is too big. I'm planning to go bigger.

Re: What is your Bigness Factor?

The cruisers with a Fortress Primary anchor are going to get hosed on this thread.
I would have to put a Fortress FX-125 at 69 lbs to get in the BIB league.

That would be a BIB monster

Be honest and let's see what the poll comes up with. There are actually quite a few folks using Danforth and Fortress primaries out there in the wild, though they are not here on CF very much, or else they are afraid to raise their heads above the parapets!

Say what. In a blow my fortress is primary. But that's in Chesapeake mud. My other primary is a Manson supreme. For up north its a Bruce. If its rocky it might be my Luke. How do I calculate all that steal.

I am with you.

I voted with my real inadequate numbers to keep it real.

All this other stuff, I am just posting so the women still think we are hung like a horse when most here are really hung like hamsters, sorry I meant to say have a Bigness Factor of a hamster

What counts is how often it gets wet and then how it performs. If your boat is a happy boat then all is good. You just dont want to get screwed while calculating your wealth.

Re: What is your Bigness Factor?

A few weeks ago, I processed the data in the anchor poll and obtained 2 graphs, "Bigness factor" and "Weight ratio".

The first just shows a cloud of dots but the second clearly shows a trend: heavier boats carry lighter anchor relative to their displacement. Then, the "Bigness factor" is possibly not the most relevant ratio.

Re: What is your Bigness Factor?

I have both the Fortress FX-85 and the FX-125. In the past 10 years I have used the FX-85 3 times and the FX-125 one time.
