Ai! It's an easy way to tell whom you should trust on CF and who peddles fake news.

See (attached) GITaylor CQR patent US1974933.pdf, about 291 KB.

Stick it out, Predict Wind has the strong wind moving W and going down to 15kts in your area.

I have been in the same spot for four days now and don’t plan on moving. Here, I know I can withstand 50+ gusts.

Unless you’re facing a significantly rising wind forecast, or major wind shifts, I’d stay put. Just keep an eye on chafe and other linkages.

Interesting trivia: He originally called it the "Secure Anchor" but the UK Patent Office wouldn't let him patent a "common word", so he came up with the phonetic "CQR"
The supposed "Coastal Quick Release Anchor" and "Clyde Quick Release Anchor" are just folk etymology backronyms

Re: What to do if anchor drags?

Funny, I'm old enough to remember when the CQR was considered the best thing in the world, sent from God to save our souls. These days everyone says it's crap. I never had a problem with mine, but 25 lbs is just too small for anything other than a lunch hook. CQRs start at 35 lbs and work their way up.

Every boat should have at least two main anchors and a smaller stern anchor.

And Don Street says that any serious causing boat should carry five (5) anchors.

Where do you look up the wind ratings for anchor sizes?

I got the rating from the Rocna website. I have no idea if that kind of information is available anywhere for cqrs.

Anybody know?

Your anchor is in the bottom in this wind. Chain is in water. I've done emergency deployment's when the poop hit the fan and my CQR's always caught and held even without proper setting and scope.

If you start dragging you'll need to pick up and reset.

Under normal conditions does the anchor get fully buried, along with some of the chain rode? If so, then it is very unlikely that the anchor will drag. Instead it should just push deeper into the Earth's crust, towards the mantle.

My Fortress anchor works that way, just driving deeper and deeper, pulling more and more chain underground.

The anchor? No way to find where that is. I took that as a good sign.

The OP has already stated that anchor and the first 120' of chain rode are fully buried into the seabed.

I’ve never heard anyone say CQRs are crap. They’re just not as good as the newer style anchors.

Quite correct, Mike.

And, on a weight-for-weight basis is also important to note. Primarily because of the area of the part that holds:

Why NEW GEN Anchors are Better:

Anchors & TEST Results of New Generation Anchors EXCELLENT & Important
