Windlass for a 3700 Tartan

In need for a Windlass for my 3700 Tartan. Looking for good recommendations... need to be a vertical. I was looking at the Lewmar V700, but realized that its for up to a 35' boat.

Re: Windlass for a 3700 Tartan

I just installed a Maxwell VC 8 series to replace a 26 yo Maxwell Nillson windlass. The boat is a Cabo Rico 38 displacing roughly 23,000 lb. 200 ft of 5/16 in chain and a 45 lb CQR.

Haven't had the chance to use it until engine repairs are complete. On the plus side it fit just fine into the deck holes of the old windlass.

If you end up with one, explain that you want the vertical capstan option and choose your system for operating the windlass. I have deck foot switches. Many people on this forum hate foot switches. So for $15 dollars on Amazon I bought a wireless remote control.

If it is as reliable as the old system, I shall be well pleased.

I have a Maxwell VWC1500 and couldn't be happier. Works fantastic. Maxwell and Lofrans makes great windlasses, and Lewmar makes the V3, which should work well for your boat.
