In the course of cleaning things and putting things back together, we discovered the thrust washer was broken in three pieces. We are now awaiting a new one. I will keep you posted about the voltage under load when everything is back together.

Re: Windlass Might Be Dying -- Need Help

Update: While we thought we had solved the problem we continued to have intermittent issue as described earlier. It finally just quit mid anchoring. We narrowed it down to the motor and took it to the 'MacGuyver' of motors on Bequia, we were told if he couldn't fix it we should bury it. Well he couldn't fix it, the problem was in the armature -- manufacturing problem, who knows? We definitely ruled out electrical issues.

Anyway we bought a new Lofrens Tigress windless from the UK ($1,790 US including shipping) and installed it in St. Lucia ourselves. We couldn't get a new motor here in the Caribbean until the beginning of May, $900 US before shipping. A new Lofrens Tigress windless from the US $2,700 before shipping. The new windless is working great!
