Yacht Beaching Legs

Hi, Does anyone have experieince of Beaching legs? I have used them on small boats many years ago but don't see them anymore. I was wondering if there is a maximum hull length/weight. In theory there I imagine after a certain length the leverage is too great on on center leg?

Re: Yacht Beaching Legs

^^That thread linked to is most useful.
I will add that I've never heard of "a center leg," which implies more than one leg per side. But it's usually only one per side.
I beached my boat for cleaning on a sandbar in El Salvador, and used poles macheted from the jungle as legs, jammed under the chainwales. It would have been nice to have a strong fixed pivot and guy ropes, but the water was warm enough that we just stood it it holding the poles while the water receded.
One note: if you beach broadside to the current, which the geography of our event dictated, the hydraulic action will carve a hollow out of one side of the keel, and build a sandbar on the other.

Re: Yacht Beaching Legs

Indeed the other thread as mentioned is vey good.
I have only seen boats with one leg each side.
Sorry can not answer the question of the original poster, but I know there is another solution, like integral legs.

Dick Zaal designed Black Pearl with such legs. The one I have seen was GRP. These wind-out legs that came out off the hull, one each side. It was operated by a normal sheet winch handle in the cockpit. Hehehe, and for an uneven bottom, one leg could be wound out further.
Here is the design:

Here is one such boat for sale:
