10 steps to installing charts in Seaclear.

New here. Got great help with my first question. Hope this might be helpful to the next person.

1. Download raster charts from NOAA.
2. Open MapcalII utility. This is a seperate program from Seaclear. You will find it in your Start menu.
3. (IN Mapcal) Tools--Set Directories.
4. (Mapcal) Assign the path to the file you just downloaded.
5. (Mapcal) Click OK.
6. (Mapcal) Tools-->Autoload list-->scan for new charts.
7. (Mapcal) Tools-->Autoload List-->recreate.
8. Close Mapcal.
9. Restart Seaclear (if it was open while using Mapcal).
10. (In Seaclear) File-->chart-->list all.

You should see the chart(s) you just installed.

Thanks man. I "Dicked Around" with Seaclear a few months ago and gave up. I will give it another shot. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks People,

The messages in this forum got things working well for us! The use of Windows Vista, My Magellan 500 Gps with Sea Clear is progressing satisfactorily.

Most Gratefully Yours,

I can't make it work

I did those steps, many times and others. As far as the step 5 goes,
I acutaly unziped the files and dragged them into the "charts" folder
in Seaclear's program file. Still can not open them, mapcal wont
find them with the search, even if I open the folder and right click
on the chart, choosing "open with" and selecting mapcal....nope.

PLEASE HELP!
Thanks,
Marshall

Re: 10 steps to installing charts in Seaclear.

Downloaded NOAA chart files are structured as follows. A folder with a semi English name like USCG_d7 inside that a folder labled BSB_ROOT. Inside that, a folder for each chart number plus one text file- USER AGREEMENT . Inside the individual chart folders one BSB file and one or more KAP files.
Downloading from NOAA and unzipping the file to SEACLEAR - Charts and then using MAP CAL ii did not work. do I need to get rid of the outermost folder or the text file before trying or what?

Re: 10 steps to installing charts in Seaclear.

For Seaclear you don't need the BSB files.
1. Download and unzip the NOAA folder.
2. Search the folder for ".KAP" files and then move the results to the Seaclear "Charts" folder or other folder of your choice. If you use a folder other than the Seaclear "Charts" folder then you need to use Mapcal to set the directory for the folder you created .
3. Scan for new charts in Mapcal.

Re: 10 steps to installing charts in Seaclear.

Seaclear is still around? i was using that 15 years ago. OpenCPN is much easier to get charts into, it even has a tool builtin to download the charts from NOAA.

I looked at the site and there hasn't been any significant developement on the software for 10+ years
