Re: AICW Alligator Bridge closed

From the link:
“The bridge has been closed to marine traffic since the Thursday incident, as we need to replace some anchor bolts…before we can get the auxiliary system reliable again,” Hass said.

“Once that’s done, we will likely open the bridge to marine traffic again, but it may be on a regulated schedule, as that auxiliary system is not meant to continually open and close at will,” Hass said.

Getting the main control system back online is being held up because the parts have to be custom-built.
So it will probably be operational soon, but on a reduced schedule for the indefinite future. Unfortunately, it does not appear that the bridge has a page where you can directly go to get its status.

Re: AICW Alligator Bridge closed

Saw a note on trawlerforum today that the bridge is open again, and there's also a relatively new note in ActiveCaptain that says the bridge was nack to normal operations as of 16 Oct.

More confirmation would be comforting.

Maybe a call to the Alligator River Marina, which is right next to the bridge maybe in order...

We passed through this bridge a couple of days back. It was functioning normally.

I was figuring to call the bridge tender from Coinjock, if necessary... I remember a couple years ago the situation was so fluid nobody at the marina really knew, and even the bridge tenders didn't seem to be sure they could tell what was happening "tomorrow" on any given day.

The marina had decent fried chicken, though.

Thanks, useful to know. Helps to have a clue far enough in advance...
