AIS with Raytheon RC520 Chartplotter - How to Install

Hello,
We are considering upgrading our electronics by adding an AIS transponder. However, so far we haven't found a clear explanation regarding the installation.
We have a Raytheon RC520 chartplotter (which we want to keep). Could we plug an AIS transponder to it? What else would we need (VHF antenna splitter)?
Thank you for helping us understand what to buy and how to install AIS with our current electronics.
