Autohelm ST 7000

We have an old Autohelm ST 7000 on our 20 year old Hunter 450. I’d like to replace the pedestal unit with a contemporary one which I could link to my Navionics eCharts on my iPhone. Has anyone done this? Questions are whether Navionics can link and if a new generation helm unit can be “simply” wired to the existing wires. Thank you.

What other instruments do you have, and what other wiring? The 7000 uses Seatalk (NMEA 0183), and anything new is unlikely to. You can add a converter and run the 7000 from a modern chartplotter, but if you’re replacing the 7000 it will depend on what you’re replacing it with. Are you wanting to replace the course computer too? Or is this just for aesthetics of having all the instruments matching?
