Autopilot

So I am just starting some research for an autopilot for my C&C 25. It has a tiller and the only thing I have found about Autopilot was for a Autohelm 800. That is appearing to be obsolete or hard to find, what would be a good comparison?

Thank you.

Re: Autopilot

You might want to work on your internet search skills or search for marine tiller pilot.

Re: Autopilot

Search fot tillerpilot.

Raymarine and simrad make them, among others. On a 25 any model will do - bigger boats could use more strength. Usually higher end models can connect ti gos to hold a course, as oooosed to just holding heading.

Re: Autopilot

I have the Raymarine ST 2000 that I'm using at this time. (my boat is a 6600 lb Displacement Bristol 27)

I like it because it's much quieter than my Simrad TP10 and easier to recalibrate if you have to move it from port to starboard

The only thing you need to be aware of on the Raymarine is that the shaft will at times come unscrewed and you need to retighten it.

I bought the Raymarine after my Simrad stopped working but later I was able to get it going again so I have a spare now which is good. Now I just need a spare tiller since it was a real pain steering the boat with the sails the last time my tiller broke in half.

Re: Autopilot

This is my Raymarine ST2000 steering

You can just hear it at the start of this video.

Winds are gusting to 29 knots and the autopilot "drove" most of the 4 hour/25 mile return trip home. I unfurled my jib and untangled my furler after I got into my home creek where I was protected from the wind and waves
