Charts for OpenCPN

Ok so i purchased a copy of open cpn from ebay ( would have got it for free if i had done proper research but hey ho) Got a cheap GPS dongle the same way and all seems to be working on the laptop in windows xp.
Not bad for a bloke that can only just send an email.
I have purchased a CD of charts from a site recommended by the person selling the cpn copy ( CM 93 version 2) . The problem i am having is the directory is lots of numbers and i have no way of knowing what they relate to in relation to a location . I do not want to have to add them all to my directory in open cpn just the ones that cover charts of the UK and Ionian sea areas.
Help please, not sure what i am doing so very simple English only.

Simple fix in plain language for you Wozzer

Wozzer, In Windows Explorer, look for the OpenCPN folder / directory, then right click on that main folder to make a new folder which you will call "Charts".
Then, insert your chart CD and copy everything from that CD into the folder called "Charts".
Then fire up OpenCPN and go to the "Charts" menu, point CPN towards the "Charts" folder, click on that as your basic charts folder, do the suggested refresh routine and you will find incredible detail on your screen.
If you get stuck at any point in the process, feel free to give me a call, I'm currently in Norfolk UK so a call will not cost you very much. You can call me on my cell phone which is 0776 683 1283 and since I have my laptop fired up most of the time, I can probably help you solve your problems almost instantly.
Regards,
James

Smile More info Wozzer

Wozzer, the charts you bought are GLOBAL, and they are fantastic!!!. Don't even think about trying to reduce the coverage, just use the "Tools" "Charts" buttons to add EVERYTHING to your "OpenCPN/Charts" folder.
Using the same chart edition you have, I can zoom into my exact current PONTOON in Lowestoft England and I can zoom into my old pontoon in Baltimore, Maryland. That level of detail is mind blowing!!! and it's the same level of detail world wide.
Hope this helps, and again, if you get stuck, feel free to call me.

James

Hey guys, I have been playing with openCPN software for a few days now and thanks for the link to the charts - very cheap.

Just a quick question as I can't seem to find much info on the site itself, Whats the difference betweent the Global 2010 versions of the charts? Theres and A and B version with a 10 pound difference in price. I am asuming that it's a revision but would liketo be sure before I purchase.

Also, how would you rate the quality and accuracy of these charts in particular?

Chart sets

Hi Serenity01
I can not tell you much about the charts, the link to the site i got mine from was supplied from the help site that sold me my open cpn cd. There does not seem to be any contact information for the chart set seller to be able to ask questions so i just took a chance and as i am only a novice and do not really need the latest charts went for the 2009 version to save a few pounds.
They seem to be OK to me but what do i know?
