Computer and E series Raytheon

Is it possible to attach a computer to an E series Raytheon to get the data necessary for Expedition software: wind angles, wind speeds, boat speed, etc..?

Thanks

Jack

Raytheon says you can get the data INTO your PC:
Raymarine Marine Electronics - PC Integration

and sells the interface box. But that's an ethernet interface, and the Expedition software wants an NMEA serial data stream. You'd have to see if either vendor has a solution to convert the SeaTalkHS data stream from Raytheon, into an NMEA stream for the software. Or else find someone to custom write the code that would suck the data out of the ethernet stream and present it to a virtual serial port.

That's a simple exercise for the guys who do that kind of work--but they usually don't work cheap.

Jack,

You can connect the E-series via NMEA to a PC. It won't get you radar or weather overlays, but just about anything else is available through the NMEA 0183 interface, or thru the Seatalk2 interface (NMEA 2000 compatible) if you have the right interface...

...and assuming that Explorer knows how to handle 2000 - I don't know if it does.

Expedition will also take its NMEA data from a TCP/IP connection (over Ethernet). I don't know if the Raymarine format is compatible, though.
