Denison Canal, Dunalley

Thinking of going through the Denison Canal on the return from Hobart in early Jan.

Anyone have any tips or tricks?
I’ve read the MST documents.

We draw 1.8 m so should be okay in most tides.

We draw 2.2 and get thru on a 1 meter at Hobart tide. There are two shallow spots, one in the marked channel on the inside, one in the marked channel on the outside. They are nominally 1.3 m over datum and are pretty short to get over.

At 1.8 m draft should be pretty easy!

Go for it... time your transit with the tide. Have used it numerous times when delivering yachts to / from Hobart. Can a local give you latest intel on the north-eastern end? (The channel when we last transitted was not as marked).

MAST site has a Dec 2020 route for download.

Re: Denison Canal, Dunalley

Hmm, had a look at the tides.
At the time we’d be looking at going through (4pm) it will be the bottom of a really low tide (0.09m).
If we don’t go through then, we’ll have to wait until the next day when we’ll have plenty of water.

Might be better to give it a miss rather than sit around for 16 hours waiting on the tides.

Oh, well, next time.
