We drew 4.5 on our 34' Irwin. Great ride...couple of keel bumps on underwater mystery logs but nothing to write home about. We did a video of it on our YOUTUBE channel if you would like to have a "virtual" run-through experience. Search, "Sailing Accidental Gybe".

I did that trip in April 2020 on a 33 foot sailboat with 6 foot draft. We hit plenty of logs but just bounced over them. Talking later with the longtime lock master, a great guy since deceased, I learned our mistake was going too fast which, in the narrow channel, caused us to squat and effectively increased our draft. It was very beautiful and I would take that route again anytime, hopefully with a shallower draft. I probably wouldn’t take a twin screw power boat through though, regardless of the draft, without protection for the props.

since my original posting been lucky and will have another sailor on board, with two people now decided to do it, two people on board in the ICW makes a lot of difference.
