Dismal Swamp vs Albemarle Chesapeake Canal

Pros & cons of one route over the other for PDQ 36 w\ 50 ft mast. Which is faster, more convenient, pleasant, etc.

Re: Dismal Swamp vs Albemarle Chesapeake Canal

What’s the draft of your boat? Dismal Swamp has a controlling depth of 6 feet. There are places where there are logs etc. that may be a problem for you.
A good deal of the dismal Swamp runs along a highway, I have found the traffic noise to really diminish the beauty of the canal—That existing highway is scheduled to become part of the interstate system in the near future, which will make it even worse.

The Dismal swamp is slower, but the part that is not next to the highway is beautiful. Also a nice overnight stop half way through.

One has foul, viscous mud, stinging insects, gaseous miasma, and humanity's genetic rejects. The other is a swamp. Your call.

Our draft is 3 feet. We decided to take the ICW, and the locks were no problem, and it was beautiful. Stopped at Top Rack Marina for 1 ngith and staying at Coinjock tonight.
