Going up or down the Fraser you will encounter a lot of flotsam ranging from small logs to full size trees.

Try to enter Sand Heads on a relatively high tide, when the flow in the river is reduced. And you don't want to be in the area of Sand Heads when a strong river outflow runs against a strong southeaster.

FYI last summer it took 5 hours to cross the strait between Nanaimo and the Lyons Gate on a broad reach in 20-30 kt NW winds. What a ride that was!
It was better to just run on the genny due to the 4' swells.
