We no longer visit a favorite land place getaway, Albion, California, since the LNM provided notice that the fog activated horn was being replaced by a VHF activated horn. The morurnful drone of the horn was a part of the attraction and a soporific for both of us. Oh well, progress has a price. I have considered taking a handheld and playing illegal games, but decided it was a poor idea.

Stonington, Ct harbor breakwater light and foghorn USCG had a cell phone call in proposal 2 years ago because some guy did not like train whistles or fog horn noises. We a wrote CG and got that squashed! To many things can go wrong with this idea.

Aren't you all lucky to have foghorns at all. Here in the British Isles (or These Islands, as we tend to call them in Ireland ), Trinity House and the Commissioners for Irish Lights have decommissioned all sound signals over the last ten years, we just don't have foghorns!

Re: Foghorns to be on-demand, VHF-activated

Does anyone know where to find a Notice to Mariners about this? And is there a list of lighthouses affected? People will need to update their charts because only selected lighthouses will be equipped with the MRASS.
