Anyone know where I might find electronic charts of the Pacific Coast of Baja, Mexico?

Replying to see if there is an answer.

I tried going the OpenCPN route, but couldn't find anything except some very old HDR charts that aren't supported.

Someone suggested getting charts from Mex Govmnt website, but that didn't work so well either,

I ended up getting the Navionics charts to use with MacENC and iNavx. I'm glad I did, they are very detailed if not always accurate, but would be interested to see what people link you to.

I'm sure once u get down there, there may be plenty of options floating around the anchorage.

Re: Free electronic charts of Baja Mexico?

I found a website to view NGA charts of the area, but haven't figured out how to download the source images.

I opened one space in BOX, uploaded the 5 .RAR files with the charts and authorized you to download them. Let me know, if it does not work. Unzip them and store them. It is CM93ed2 2011/2012.... the newest I know...

Thanks, I'm on a slow internet connection so it may take a while to download. But I'll keep trying. What did you use to .rar them? Does it un-rar to one file / folder?

Not charts, but I use downloaded satellite imagery for navigation in the sea of Cortez. it's incredibly detailed and accurate, and lets you see bottom type and hazards to a depth of 20-30'. You can download this for your garmin, magellan, or delorme handheld GPS via the companies' websites, or download it onto an ipad or android tablet using the trimble mytopo maps app.

You just look for a free unzip program, that includes .rar files. Once starting the unzip, you instruct where you want the files have safe in your computer....

7Zip is free to download and use, GNU license. A little clumsy for me. If you are running Windows, WinRAR is another that is available. The evaluation version will essentially run indefinitely.

Thanks. Is this the same SM93 chart set as the torrent 932.76 MiB big? I am just a bit hesitant before opening one more cloud (or whatever) account. Getting tired of all the passwords, service agreements, snooping and such.

No, it is not and since I know you are tired and picky, you are not set up to share. Just as simple....

The way I set up my navigation stuff is

I opened a separate folder under the name of my boat.
I set a underfile with Navcharts original and filed there the original .rar files, as well as all the NOAA free USA charts.
Next I made a working file Navcharts unzipped and stored there all my chartmaterial to use with OpenCPN.

Have fun, enjoy the cruising with the charts...
