Re: Free Routing Software

No, that did not help. Slightly worse. The last version actually restarted, generally, if I stopped the grib before closing down.

This is the backtrace from ddd/gdb

Re: Free Routing Software

Arf. I succeeded in reproducing it though, but not too often. Seems it is gone now... can you try again?

(if this still does not work please let switch to private messages so we don't burden the forum too much)

Re: Free Routing Software

Maitai..

OK,I´ve created a route and the POI´s from 1-7 with time/date activated.
I exported successfully as a .gpx route to OpenCPN using the POI only option.
When I elected to use the other option to get ALL the data,OpenCPN crashed and when I investigated the file it only contained the first waypoint details??

But my biggest problem is,how do you create the optimized route based on the prevailing wind conditions as provided by the current GRIB details loaded?

From a previous example I saw a red zig-zag line but have no idea how it was created.

Re: Free Routing Software

From your other post I think you managed it at the end

In fact I think that in the above post you didn't insert the POIs in the route, you must have just used the timestamp option, which is just a way to indicate a time in the POI label. Then when you exported the route it was empty, and with full details it contains only the position of the boat.

To insert the POI in a route you must either right-click on it->route->select a route, or edit it and do the same.

You can create a routing, which will calculate the best course from your boat (or from a starting POI) to a destination POI using isochrons method. Then you can convert it to a route, etc.

Re: Free Routing Software

I'm quite impressed with qtVlm.
Instead of loading faxes, you can load a chart instead, to help with planning.

The cursor is close to K4. Note how land is avoided on the route NS1 - K4.
A more detailed chart is needed to finalize the route K3 - NS3, to avoid shallows and oil rigs. This is where OpenCPN or paper charts enters.

Re: Free Routing Software

Thomas,

Did my last modification (rev #1255) fixed you weird problem with painting? If this is the case I will issue the next patch.

Maitai
I have hesitated to say so, but yes, it looks like the problem is fixed now.
Thanks!

Re: Free Routing Software

Patch2 for version 3.2.8 is released, thanks Thomas for you help.

It contains also a better way to create a boat at the first time (in english if needed ), plus the support for navimal gribs at high resolution.

Re: Free Routing Software

maitai..

I created a route and set up all the POI´s but somehow the prediction ends with POI-4?
POI-5 and 6 are also included in the route so why does it not show the ETA date/time?

I also have difficulty dragging or positioning the map when zooming in.

Re: Free Routing Software

Very probably your grib does not go so far (ends up maybe in 5 days and you need more to reach the last points).

Download a longer grib:

-VLM gribs are worldwild and 5 days long (and big, more than 30mb)
-Simple grib download allows to specify a zone and are up to 8 days (better choose the better resolution in time and degrees). You can also download and display other grib data.
-You can ask for a saildocs grib, up to 15 days. qtVlm helps you doing such a request but you need to configure your mail and qtVlm accordingly.

Of course a prevision at 15 days is hmmm... theoritical. Even 8 days in fact.

You can remove the compass and the polar from qtVLm with "C" and "L", or through the menu qtVlm->hide/show, maybe it will help you moving around the map since they won't be disturbing you. One way is to select a zone and press the "zoom on selection" button. Otherwise you can move with arrows, and zoom/unzoom with the mouse wheel.

Re: Free Routing Software

maitai..

I assumed the grib prediction covered the displayed area but of course I see it only extends to 19 July.

Re panning map, which arrows are you referring to? I can see none.
Having boxed the required area and centered map here, the interested area gradually disappears as you zoom in?

Thanks for your patience..

Re: Free Routing Software

Click on "zoom-on-selection" button, do not right-click->center map here (which is doing what it should but will not change the zoom factor)

For the grib this is all normal

Yes, nice, but be careful where you place the initial wpt. This is what happened to me placing a wpt off Ramsgate, zoomed way out.

Bug or not? It's pointless anyway.
