Garmin Service

Greetings....

I have two Garmin chart plotters that have gone south and Garmin tells me they are too old and they no longer service them.

The models are GPSmap 178C Sounder and GPSmap176.

Anyone know of a good shop to handle this? Thanks, John

John--

Firstly, "Garmin Service" is an oxymoron.

Beyond the foregoing, in what manner have your units "gone south"? Unfortunately, Garmin does not make its schematics available which makes finding a third party electronics repair shop a near impossibility. Further both the 176 and 178C are so old at this point that parts are no longer available. (I when through that with a 176 a "black screen death" issue a while ago.) We found that from the date of a new unit introduction to the date the "new" unit is no longer serviced/parts available to average about 5 years with Garmin hence we've abandoned the company in favor of Furuno which is also more reliable/robust.

FWIW...

Re: Garmin Service

Thanks, although I have had good service from them on warranty repairs on newer electronics. I am a yacht broker, and new boat dealer, work full time at it, and have lots on contact......

A local dealer turned me onto a Florida 3 rd party firm and I will give them a try. Best, John
