Question GE2Kap on android tablet

Can any one help me with a charting app that will allow the use of GE2Kap charts on an android tablet. I am new to tablets and dont have a phone that is smarter than I am. I would like to use OpenCPN and GE charts as I am familiar
with them

jaramanpotter..

First of all,OPENCPN does not as yet run on Android devices, but I would recommend
two other navigation programs which uses .kap/.bsb type charts.
OruxMaps and MarineNavigator. Both free.

Re: GE2Kap on android tablet

I presume you have already solved the problem of importing your existing .kap
maps to your OruxMaps and MarineNavigator, but I will mention the procedure again.

1. OruxMaps. You have to download OruxMaps Desktop to your PC and use
it to convert your existing .kap maps to the OruxMaps format consisting
of a directory containing TWO files. To convert, you need the .kap file as well
as it´s corresponding bitmap. If you do´nt have the bitmap, you can create one using your .kap file with the free, downloadable BSB Reader.
When finished, copy the file to the OruxMaps file directory on your tab.

1. MarineNavigator is somewhat easier. Copy your .kap file to the import
directory specified. Then start Marine Navigator and press the bottom left
part of the screen and select IMPORT. Click the desired map and it installs
aoutomatically.

Still struggling! I have MarineNavigator Lite vs Marine Navigation. Is this the one I need. I have charts in BSB ROOT file on sd card but that does not come up when I press the load charts icon.
I haven't used the android tablet or any such device before and I dont know my way around it.

That is not running O on Android. It is taking a piece of hardware that was sold with Android on it, then rooting it and installing a distro of Linux on it.

It is running O on Linux, not Android.

However, there is a actually a thread in the OpenCPN thread where someone says they have it running on Android with the assistance of a few add-ons. This hasn't been totally confirmed, yet.

Re: GE2Kap on android tablet

But mostly far too complicated still for the average user. Once a fully automated installer is created, there will be great interest.

jaramanpotter... You´re almost there, but you are pressing the wrong button?
You have to press the bottom LEFT part of the screen to access the Import menu.
You find it just below the - spyglass all the way to the bottom left of your screen.
After the conversion is finished you will find the chart in the regular chart selection button at the bottom right of your screen.

There is another android app which I find to be more user friendly ie which menu is more intuitive. Its called Locus and it will load the rmap and sqlite format maps that you use in Oruxmap. Just copy the maps to the Locus map folder which I found was automatically created in the SD card when the app was installed. You might wish to give that a try.
