good Tuamotus charts

Hey everyone. I'm in the Marquesas Islands and looking to head to the Tuamotus. The problem is that my openCPN charts show certain motus (puka puka, napoto etc.) as geometric shapes with no detail. The navionics charts looks good but the downloader program that i've just got from their website seems to be only for people that already have an SD card. Can i download the charts or something? Are there any other sources that anyone can recommend? Cheers!

Re: good Tuamotus charts

We used upto date C-Map charts. They were pretty good. Once you are inside the atoll usually only the area up to the town will be surveyed. Then you are eye-ball navigating, which is pretty easy in good light.

Thanks Paul. Can C-map charts be downloaded or are they only available on a chip? And what did you pay for them if you don't mind me asking?

Check the Jepperson CMAP website. They have a lot of different formats. Prices depend a lot on the area covered. You can get one package that covers the entire South Pacific including NZ and Aust. I download and use with Maxsea and my Furuno chart plotter.
