Google Earth & Android Tablet

I am not a computer whiz. All of our sailing will be in the Philippines and South China Sea. Charts are iffy in accuracy. I am concluding that creating charts from Google Earth will be the most accurate way of generating charts. Without considering OpenCPN (I cannot follow at all the android stuff) can I use an android tablet to download GE maps, create charts and navigate.

I am looking at the Pantech Element, cheap and water resistant. Or should I just go to a laptop?

Many thanks for any help. I have researched a lot of the posts but I give up it's too hardcore for me.

Hi Brian.

As far as I know,there are no GE to KAP conversion programs for Android as yet.
However,I suggest you do the conversions at home on your PC/laptop before you sail.
I normally use GE2KAP for the conversion.

Download the navigation programs OruxMaps or MarineNavigator (both free) and import your .kap maps. OruxMaps have a PC based conversion program and MarineNavigator imports any .kap map directly. Good luck!
